Showcase SIL 2019 for Yaskawa
Yaskawa manufactures industrial robotics and motion control systems. Its catalogue includes the MOTOMINI, a six-axis articulated arm compact enough to sit in the palm of a hand. Displaying a piece like that at SIL 2019, the Salón Internacional de la Logística held at Fira de Barcelona, posed a different problem from a stand: the robot is small, it falls below the eye line and it is within anyone’s reach. What was needed was a display unit that lifted it to eye level, protected it from handling and left it visible on all four sides.
White lacquered plinth and acrylic case with a lock
The answer is a white lacquered joinery plinth, resolved as two stacked volumes on a black base plate. The upper body carries the Yaskawa logotype and a faceted band graphic in the two corporate blues, wrapping the corners. The lower skirting is set back and backlit with LED: the light escapes along the faceted cut and draws the piece against the hall floor. On top sits a clear acrylic case, fixed rather than loose, with one side resolved as a hinged door on transparent hinges and a key lock.
The MOTOMINI on show and secured
The base of the case was CNC cut from an AutoCAD file, with an opening matched to the robot’s footprint so its grey base stays hidden and only the blue arm is seen. Inside, a joinery bracket fixes the machine and takes up the cabling, which runs out through the plinth to a single power socket shared with the lighting. It is a sibling project to the Yaskawa stand at SIL 2019: it shares palette, graphics and finishes, and it was placed inside it as a product piece.
